Nappy: a word for tight, coiled, kinky Afro hair. An exploration of history and culture, from ancestral roots to contemporary hairstyles. Hairstyles are not only a tool for beauty, but they are a language. A language that teaches us about cultures and traditions, passed down from generation to generation.

POSTERS AND STILLS

THE DOCUMENTARY

Through my work, I aim to represent minorities. People who are just like me grew up not being represented on a big screen. And certainly never knew a career in the arts was also accessible for them. I want to break down barriers to access certain mediums and challenge the codes around how, and by whom, creativity should be expressed. One of my creative missions is to collaborate and incorporate as many POCs and minorities to give a platform for people to express themselves. I intentionally curate every project to develop both my skills and my artistry. I believe creativity has no end, so I try to explore as much as I can. To me, art is plural and is about telling a plethora of stories.

BTS

Working with these amazing teams was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. I got to lead, learn and play with my craft. I got to meet professionals and professors whom I collaborated with to create this project. Thank you to my team, and interviewees who took their precious time to build this project I can now call my baby.
