Kate Turner

Biography

As a writer and observer, my creative drive comes from the variety of close connections I had to typical outcasts while growing up in a small town. I use the approach of centering stories around socially unappealing individuals, which allows for a different perspective on the characters that are usually antagonized in traditional Hollywood storylines. The majority of my stories take place in rural communities and provide my work with a realistic undertone of the systemic issues faced in rural areas.

Through a mix of comedy and unfortunate circumstances, my work specializes in creating a more relatable and sympathetic approach to each character. For viewers the comedic contrast between every character in my work establishes comfort in the uncomfortable. In my projects, such as Stowaway, a story about a future juvenile delinquent and hermit fisherman, the characters are as unfamiliar with each other as the viewer is to them. Ultimately, the mutual unfamiliarity forms a safe environment
