Elsa Hashemi
Biography
Elsa Hashemi is a Persian-Canadian interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Toronto. Her practice critically investigates the intersections of language, memory, and the physical body. Her "research-creation" methodology, which explores the complexities of dislocation and language loss to transform nuances of migration into a visual language, is supported by a prestigious SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada) Graduate Scholarship. She is currently an MFA candidate in the Department of Fine Arts at York University.
Her extensive exhibition record includes solo and group shows, curated showcases, and live performance presentations across the Greater Toronto Area and Iran. In addition to her art practice, she has been an instructor and a dedicated photo-documentarian who has archived many murals with StreetART Toronto.
