Laleh Sarami
Biography
Laleh is an Iranian interdisciplinary artist whose practice explores ancestral ritual, ecological grief, diasporic memory, and cultural resilience.she approaches art as a form of environmental stewardship and living cultural archive.
She graduated with her MFA from York University. Her thesis project, Vows to Water, re-enacts and re-imagines ancient Iranian rain-summoning rituals in response to Iran’s severe water crisis. Using Research-Creation and Mythopoetic methodologies, she transforms pre-Islamic and folk traditions into immersive installations that mourn ecological loss while asserting communal strength and mythic renewal.
In addition, Laleh works across painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Her earlier pieces, explored personal and collective memory, war, migration, and social upheaval, through expressive painting and sculptural forms. These foundations continue to shape her current practice.
