This experimental film explores footage of a late-night conversation with friends. I took it upon myself to document one of the countless conversations with my friend group. I wanted to capture an insight into the dynamics of female friendship. It features simple, everyday conversations that, while they might sound like nonsense, convey a deep sense of intimacy.

Using a low-quality camcorder for the main footage is intended to preserve the organicity of the moments captured. The handheld camera with a POV perspective allows the viewer to be fully immersed in the dynamic. With a series of jump cuts between the main footage and unrelated clips of everyday objects, this film evokes a dream-like sequence.

A very big thing in this project is texture. My goal was to make the audiovisual experience almost tangible. So not only did I include a diversity of visuals, but I also experimented with audio. The soundscape is intended to be discontinuous and messy.  The cuts from the actual conversation to the ambient sounds enrich the visuals and give them depth.

This project was all about encapsulating what it feels like to have a conversation with friends.  Jumping from one topic to another, picturing memories and dreams.  It can be a somewhat break from reality, where in that moment, anything feels possible.
